I have been fascinated with story since my first career as an actress and theatre teacher. I found that even in my 20-year career in fundraising for arts organizations it was largely about telling compelling stories. In my early 60’s, I felt called back to pursuing my own creative art. I started telling traditional folktales and then I felt compelled to write and tell my own personal stories which I have now done for twenty years. For fifteen years I have produced monthly storytelling shows in various venues (mostly bars) in the Oak Park/River Forest/Forest Park area. It is healthy for people to remember, write, or tell our stories as we age. It validates the importance of our life’s experiences and shares our history to be passed down for future generations. I teach “Sharing Your Legacy” workshops and classes in which I encourage senior adults to write about any memories that feel important to you. I feature some of these writings in the AWN Literary Salon which AWN produces every March. If you would like to tell a story on stage, I encourage you to attend my show (2nd Tuesdays at Robert’s Westside in Forest Park) or other storytelling shows in the area to get a feel for how they are done. I also encourage you to go to the 3rd Monday Open Mic at Friendly’s on Roosevelt Rd. And I am available to work with you personally to develop a story. Oak Park Commons Associate Member and Investor
